Workshop description: In this interactive session, participants will learn practical ways of supporting students with autism spectrum labels & other disabilities within a general education classroom. Topics addressed include defining (and redefining) autism, listening to the voices of autistic people, and seeing inclusion as a process. Several practical strategies will be provided including several relating to communication (e.g., gaze avoidance, content-connected materials), teaching to strengths, fascinations, and areas of expertise (e.g., rolodex reader, DIY ABC book), and movement. This session is specifically focused on rethinking-- rethinking inclusion, rethinking autism, and rethinking possibilities for all students.
